William has a desire to get an education, but when the lack of money and famine pass over his fmily, his chances are lost. His school fees are much to high for his parents to pay, the walking while being so weak from hunger has become unbareable, and his exams put him in one of the worst schools. the conditions of the school are horrible, missing walls, holes in the floors, lack of desks and room for students. He tries to distract himself by going to the library to teach himself, he studied his friends notes and worked his tail end off as much as he could without teh aid of a teacher, yet he was still far behind.
The people of Malawi have to change their eating habits, as a result of the famine. The famine limited their food, so they had to limit their meals. Most families ate only supper, if anythin, so that they could eat for a couple more days. This was necessary if they wanted to survive.
Will has to make a terrible choice that effects him greatly. He has to put his best friend Kamba, his dog, down and send him to doggy heaven. Kamba was old and suffer from lack of food. There wasn't enough food for will to feed him much less himself. Instead of letting Kamba slowly suffer to death, He made the brave choice to take him to the woods and pull the trigger. He was later buried. Will wasn't happy after that.
William has gotten interested in building and using technology. He is reading his checked out books about physics and windmills. He spends months digging through the scrap yard getting pieces, many people judge him and call him crazy. William, over time, gets all the pieces with help of his friend gilbert buying a dynamo, and nuts & bolts for william. Over more time, with the help of Glibert, and Geoffrey the windmill gets built. Many people show up at his house in awe that william could build the windmill.
he needed power so he built a windmill and he was tired of the weather deciding his and his familys fate so he tried to make the windmill so he could have power to make stuff that could help them throughout whatever the weather is. as i said he was tired of winter ruining all his crops and forcing him and his family to be starving. he was also tired of going to bed super early so he wanted light in his house.
William needed power so he built a windmill because he was tired of the weather deciding his fate. The necessity to motivate his change was he was fed up with waiting for the rain to grow his crops and having to go to bed at seven. So he built a windmill that could do both of those things no matter what the weather is.
